Texas won its fifth straight Big 12 volleyball championship and earned the Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after finishing 15-1 in conference this season. The Longhorns have won 14 league titles in total, including winning or sharing 10 of the last 11 Big 12 championships and 13 of the previous 15.
UT has been ranked in the top two in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll every week of the season and is currently # 4 in RPI. The Longhorns clinched first place in the conference by one game, highlighted by a crucial 3-0 win at Waco over Baylor earlier this season. Texas lost just seven sets and swept 12 of 16 conference games. UT was in the top five nationally for aces per set and hitting percentage at the start of the final week of the season. This is the second time that Texas have won five straight league titles, also from 2011 to 2015. The former Nebraska member has also had five straight wins on two occasions (1998-’02, 2004-’08).
The top 12 teams played a double round robin of 16 league games played in eight double heads. Texas and the other Big 12 schools will discover their NCAA tournament destinies on Sunday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
