Statewide Beer Conference Package | News, Sports, Jobs

ACME – This year the Great Lakes Hop and Barley Conference is sporting a new name and expanded scope as a new collaborative conference.

The Great Beer State Conference and Trade Show will bring together the former Great Lakes Hop and Barley Conference and the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Conference, offering content focused on beer, hops, barley and malt. This will increase the opportunities for brewers, producers and processors to develop relationships and share information. The conference will be held January 12-14 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in northern Acme State.

Sessions on hops and barley will include updates on research from Michigan State University’s faculty, producer panels on important topics, and time for discussion. Hops covered topics include an update on the spotted lantern fly by Rufus Isaacs, a Diaporthe presentation by Tim Miles and a panel discussing the state of the hop supply chain. Barley topics include variety and management testing reports from Michigan State University and Cornell University, an overview of alternative barley markets with Craftsman’s Alyssa Hartman Grain Collaborative and updates from representatives of the American Malting Barley Association and the Michigan Craft Beverage Council. Participants will also have access to topics of interest to brewers.

Registration includes access to all educational paths, materials and meals as indicated in the draft agenda. Registration starts at $ 300. Contact Rob Sirrine, [email protected]; Erin Lizotte, [email protected]; or James DeDecker, [email protected] for registration information, sponsorship information or trade show booth information.
