Stafford High School theater students take top honors at VHSL conference

Schools in Stafford County:

Stafford High School’s 2021 festival piece, The secret in the wings, had an outstanding performance at the Virginia Theater Association (VTA) conference last month. All aspects of the production received top honors for individual and collective achievement, including Best Play, Best Actress, two All-Star Cast Actor Awards, and Outstanding Technical Merit. Stafford High School will represent the State of Virginia at the Southeastern Theater Conference (SETC) in Memphis, TN, in March.

“It was an exceptional weekend for the theater students at Stafford High School. They worked extremely hard and showed extraordinary dedication and talent to earn these well-deserved honors, ”said SHS Theater Director Michael D’Addario. “Earning at VTA and moving to SETC is a great honor for our school and our community. It’s like winning a state championship and then competing for a national title. “

SETC takes place every year in March and welcomes 5,000 students, educators and professionals from high school and college theater. The conference also hosts over 300 workshops and courses. During this year’s event, Stafford High School will compete with the top twenty high school theater productions in the Southeastern United States.

“We are very proud of the hard work of our students, but the trip to Memphis will be expensive,” D’Addario said. “Our students will be working very hard over the next few months to raise funds to support this trip. With no live performances over the past two years, and therefore no source of income, we ask our community to support their efforts by participating in one of the many upcoming fundraisers. “

Students at the Stafford Theater will be hosting several fundraising events by early February:

  • December 4 – Barnes and Noble Book Fair
  • December 9-11 – “Seven in One Blow”, a modern fairy tale play for all ages based on The Brave Little Tailor. Performances on Dec. 9 and 10 to 19h; December 11 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Stafford High School Theater. Admission is $ 4 for children, students, and seniors, and $ 6 for adults.
  • January 11 – Spirit Night at Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburger, South Gateway Drive.
  • February 10 – Stafford County Improv Fest, an improv comedy starring students from across Stafford County. The show starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $ 3 for students and $ 5 for adults.
