Signing session, seminar, art workshops today, Saturday at the library

Naomi Nye, the young poet laureate of the United States.

There will be a book signing and presentation by author and professional advisor Jim Gardner today, July 7 at 4 p.m. at El Progreso Memorial Library, followed by a free workshop on creative and visual healing arts on Saturday. July 9th.

Gardner will present his 2015 book, “Stop Living with Grief,” a guide to breaking free from painful grief and loss, as well as other emotions, such as sadness, anger and shame.

Gardner has a doctorate in counselor education from Kansas State University and currently lives in southeast Oklahoma.

On Saturday, author Naomi Nye, United States Youth Poet Laureate, along with Jenny Browne, Texas State and City of San Antonio Poet Laureate, and fellow artists Joan Frederick, Rudi Harst and Zet Baer will offer a workshop devoted to writing, art and musical creation.

There will be two sessions, the first from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the youngest and an afternoon from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for teenagers.

Library Director Mendell Morgan said each session will provide healing opportunities involving writing, visual arts and music. Also on Saturday, the library will be offering free books from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The books were picked up by a friend from the Schertz Public Library.
