Elgin’s Gail Borden Public Library is offering “Family Holiday Fun!” “

Discover the warmth and joy that come this time of year. Families will enjoy sharing special activities such as virtually touring Alaska, feasting on books, and even creating a gingerbread house.

Best picture books of the year:

11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, December 1 on Facebook Live, gbpl.info/FBLV. Join Miss Katie for book talks highlighting “the best of the best” picture books from the 2021 edition harvest. This is a great opportunity to discover Christmas gifts for toddlers. It will be available on Facebook to watch it at your leisure after the live.

Holiday Posada:

6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 9 on Facebook Live: gbpl.info/FBLV. In the tradition of the posadas, join the Genesis Choir of San Lorenzo Church as they serenade you with popular Christmas carols from home with your loved ones. Then they will have a bilingual story and a dance class.

Winter dance party:

6 p.m. Wednesday, December 15 and 10 a.m. Thursday, December 16, in the Meadows Community Rooms at the Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

Children, aged 2 to 6, are invited to move and vibrate to the sound of their favorite winter songs and stories. Register on gailborden.register.

Cooking for children:

4 p.m. Thursday, December 16 on Facebook Live, gbpl.info/FBLV.

Join Miss Jen on learning how to bake mint chocolate chip pie just in time for the winter holiday season.

Family Gingerbread House Workshop:

6.30 p.m. Thursday December 16 via Zoom.

Work as a family to design and create a gingerbread house. So join Zoom for stories and a visit from a very special guest. One kit per family. Register on gailborden.info/register.

Alaskan reindeer farm:

1 p.m. Monday, December 27, via Zoom.

Meet and greet real reindeer on this virtual journey through the Alaskan tundra. Subscribe to the Zoom on link gailborden.info/register.

Winter art classes for preschoolers:

10 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, December 27-28, in the Sally Lee Rooms of the Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin.

A guest artist from the Old Town School of Folk Music will lead a special creative art class for ages 3 to 6 with a parent or guardian. Register on gailborden.info.

Happy midday party:

11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 30, in the Meadows Community Rooms at the Main Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, and at the South Elgin branch, 127 S. McLean Blvd.

For children from 3 to 6 years old. Put on a fancy outfit and celebrate the New Year early with stories, songs and activities. Register on gailborden.info/register.
