Online Agri-Tourism Seminar Organized to Guide Farmers to Successful Agrotourism Operations | Pune News

PUNE: The Maharashtra Government’s Tourism Directorate and the Pune-based Shekaru Foundation recently organized an online seminar and question-and-answer session to guide farmers in setting up successful agrotourism operations.
The seminar was opened by Dhananjay Sawalkar, Director, Tourism Directorate and dignitaries including Supriya Karmarkar-Datar, Deputy Director, Tourism Directorate, Pune, Dhananjay Kalekar, Deputy Director, Amravati Tourism Directorate, Vanatin Mundavare, Deputy Director, Directorate of Tourism, Nashik and Hanumant Hede, Deputy Director, Tourism Directorate, Navi Mumbai, participated in this discussion and shared their valuable thoughts and ideas on agri-tourism.
The discussion was moderated by Hemant Jagtap, Training Officer, Maharashtra Co-operative Development Corporation, Pune. Over 70 farmers participated in this online discussion and raised various issues related to agro-tourism practices. The panelists provided advice to farmers sailing on compliance and readiness for agrotourism.
Sawalkar highlighted the main initiatives undertaken by the state government. to boost agrotourism in the State and one of the key initiatives is the Agri-Tourism policy. He pointed out that agrotourism plays a vital role for the sustainable development of rural areas as it allows farmers to diversify their income, encourage businesses related to agriculture and provide jobs for young people and women in the areas. rural. In addition, it offers tourists the opportunity to get acquainted with agricultural areas, farming practices, agricultural products and to better understand the way of life of farmers, as well as cultural characteristics and traditions. He said the policy has been instrumental in the development of agritourism in the state as it has provided a clear and well-defined roadmap for farmers looking to embark on agri-tourism.
Sawalkar stressed that the greatest number of farmers should choose agrotourism as a complementary activity. He also asked the farmers to contact the regional offices of the Tourism Directorate if they encounter any difficulties.
