A highlight of nursing conferences, like the American Psychiatric Nurses Association’s annual conference, is to “see the perspective of the nursing model,” according to Lyons Hardy, MS, IA, P-MHNP.

In a video interview, Hardy, Clinical assistant professor and concentration manager of the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing, said the nursing meetings feature presentations focused on “psychosocial factors, the delivery of person-centered care and the actual treatment of the whole person ”as well as taking care of medication.

“We combine that into our unique model of care to look at how a disease affects a person and how it can impact their life, and then on the other hand, how we might treat the disease with more biological treatments.” , said Hardy.
